How often do you replace your toothbrush?
I've had my last one since Christmas, but the bristles are beginning to splay. It is a good quality one, and two months isn't long, but I'm going to have to buy a new one soon. Am I brushing my teeth too often? I like my mouth being fresh.

Once a year, I buy myself one for my birthday, my mouth feels wonderful next day

For a healthy adult who has not been given any other advise by dentist or other medical professsional, the answer is every 4-6 months, more often that this would be bad too as new brushes are harder when you first use them and you would be causing wear and tear of the teeth if you were to use a new brush too often. If your brush is looking worn out so soon, maybe you are using it too often-twice a day is best morning and last thing at night,or you may be brushing too hard,or if you rinse it under really hot water this can also damage it,rinsing it under warm water is sufficient enough. Always choose unless again told different my medical professional,a medium bristle brush,as soft won't do enough and hard will be damaging to the teeth and gums, hope all of this helps, you can trust this advice because i have been dental nursing for nearly 7 years.

truebeliever
you hav to change it every 3 months....even if its in gud condition

Maris
I replace every 3 months or so.

Super Hans
You are a perfectly normal hygienic human being. Replacing your toothbrush every three months is what most dentists recommend.

I've got two, used alternately. I think I replace one of them every six months or so of it's life, or when it splays.

I brush morning and night and again if I'm going out or feel the teeth (and mouth) need it.

Moe
Every 3 months.

I use an electric brush and the bristles change colour - once they're only blue half way down you change toothbrush heads. Funny how mine need changing every six weeks but hubby's only need changing every six months!!

Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush every 3 months, so 2 months isn't THAT far-fetched.

It could be, though, that maybe you're brushing too hard? I'd recommend getting a soft-bristle brush (instead of medium) if you don't have one already.

I don't think there's such thing as brushing too much, unless its like 5+ times a day.

dymond
It is recommended by dentists and hygienists to replace your tooth brush every 3 months or 90 days/.Most people brush at least 3 times a day and this wears a tooth brush down quite fast. Also brushing your teeth to hard may wear your tooth brush down more quickly, as well as damage the enamel on your teeth. If your gums bleed when you brush you are brushing to hard--or not frequently enough.

smilingpaleeyes
where do you store it when not in use? do you floss regularly? is it solid color or see through? many things apply.......... germs and bacteria have harder time surviving on clear surfaces. 3 months is the general rule i believe....... but being ocb(possibly) about oral care consider this.......... if stored in bathroom but not in drawer or other enclosed area ou could possibly be contaminating it each time you flush. i know GROSS! but true.......... why do we insist on brushing in the bathroom? we don't do the dishes in there.......is it because of the mirror? pretty easy to fix if it means no toilet on the brush don't you think? yeah me too........ floss? if not your not really cleaning.....again sorry..... but bacteria live in plaque..... and in essence that means bugs...tiny you can't see them bugs, plaque bugs........GROSS!!!!! OK you asked........ recommended brush time? 3 minutes... soft bristle only.. the idea is to clean and polish not scrape........if not willing to floss at least twice a day, try to floss at least before bed then brush floss again if you want but be gentle blood is not part of the process.....oh and did i say change every three months or before if frayed or damaged.....

Dentist recommend 2-3months.
That's based on a person who brush twice daily.

Every three months .. Just about.
It's on the package.

Adults and children should change their toothbrush every 3 months because they become worn out and are not as effective as they once were. Exceptions to this would be if you were using an electric toothbrush, and the manufacturer states otherwise. Some electric rechargable toothbrushes have very good brush heads that only need to be changed every 6 months. If you have gum disease, you should change your toothbrush every 4 - 6 weeks because bacteria can harbor in the bristles. You should always rinse your toothbrush out with hot water after every use and change it after you have been sick.

Your suppose to replace them?

Replace your brush, or the brush attachment, every three months

It doesn't matter if you brush your teeth too often. It's not unhealthy or anything, but it might be bordering on obsession if it's e.g: 10 times a day.

Then it's no wonder the bristles are beginning to splay.

If you're still going to brush your teeth as much when you get your new one, don't go for the first toothbrush on the shelf, make sure it's not too coarse/hard, and has soft bristles.

Oscilatting/revolving toothbrushes are good for someone like you who wants their mouth to be fresh because it massages the gums and spreads the tooth paste everywhere, so it would really leave you feeling refreshed for longer.

Also, about the fresh mouth thing, get a mouth wash, because they're the best things for keeping your mouth fresh, they're so powerful that the fresh effect will last longer than a toothbrush.

Just remember its not like a substitute for a toothbrush though!

Hope I helped.

Have a great day..

Sarah
