Dry socket and smoking question!?
I had extraction on all 4 wisdom teeth exactly 8 days ago. I had a dry socket in one, and had the last packing removed today. The surgeon gave me paste if I needed it. Can I smoke? I know that it is beginning to heal already or else he wouldn't have taken the packing out right?

You been what, 8 days without smoking? I would not smoke while those sockets are healing, period. And since you've gone this long, well..........

you can smoke if you want, i'm sure, but it's going to increase the healing time by cutting off the supply of O2 the wound is actually getting and reducing the number of cells that are renewed.

dont smoke yet! wait for at least a week more.

pupgirl
Probably not a good idea.

no dont smoke

brandyboo
I wouldnt smoke just because you had a dry socket .

But if you must smoke ......

place gauze over the sockets and puff lightly ... that will lessen your chance of having any problems.

badjuju10
if he gave you a clove paste to pack it you should wait until you are done using the paste

Most people smoke regardless .......sometimes they get dry socket and then other times they don't. All depends on how well your mouth heals. I would say you should be fine to smoke.

I am a Smoker, I did...dry sockets...any questions? It hurt like a BBBBBBBBBBB!

califblnd
Your not suppose to.

You ask, I answer
i just had wisdom teeth extracted on Friday, and i was diagnosed with dry socket today. they say not to smoke. if you have made it 8 days without smoking, then why start? make it the time to quit. smoking is not good for you anyway. and dry socket is HORRIBLE. i did nothing wrong, and still got it.

Staffie1
I smoked an hour after my extraction and got a dry socket. I was sick for 4 days with vomiting and the most severe pain I have ever felt...I would have rather given birth. So, I would say NO.

I'd say your safe, but after not smoking for 8 days, don't you want to quit? If I could make it 8 days without smoking (or killing anyone) I surely wouldn't want to take it up again!

Danny
Go ahead and smoke. I had the same problem when I had my wisdom teeth extracted. I had two dry sockets actually and they hurt like hell. The dentist soaked gauze in clove oil and then packed it into the socket. This way the nerve isn't exposed. The clot, which was keeping the nerve from being exposed is already gone. If the gauze is out and it isn't hurting you should be fine. If it does hurt, stuff that paste in it and it should help. I had no problem smoking when my packing was removed, so I think you will be fine. Good luck!

just don't smoke..yes i know that is not the answer you wanted but anyway just say no..good luck..i hope it all heals fast

No, you shouldn't smoke again for the rest of your life. However, it's not going to affect your extractions at this point.

If you have made it this long without smoking, do not start again. you are over the hump if you want to quit. The hardest part is the first three days.

If you do decide to smoke stick a cotton wad where the teeth were removed and keep your teeth clenched down while you smoke. This will make extra sure that you don't get any more problems with it.
