Do 4 out of 5 dentist really recommend gum to their patients that chew gum?
Or does the fifth one recommend dentures?

Good observation!!!! I always wondered about what the 5th dentist had against recommending gum to their patients who chew gum. Now it all makes sense. You deserve a Nobel Peace prize!!!!! You are a genius!!!!

the fifth wasn't offered enough money...

4 OUT OF 5 DENTISTS RECOMMEND TEETH FOR THEIR PATIENTS WHO CHEW.

The 5Th one recommends an enema.

Supertwinkle
SUGAR FREE GUM!!!!
ALWAYS!!!

Cilly Buggah
Chewing gum is a dirty/disgusting habit.
Generally bad for your teeth.
Torture if you have a denture.
Not to mention the monkey-like expressions of the continuous chewers.
And all those pieces of 'spent' gum deposited in public places, under table tops, on park benches, sidewalks etc.,etc.

Yes if I were a Dentist I would be the 'number five'.

No, They don't. Dont believe everything you see in commercials. If you do want to chew gum the best is a sugarless gum preferably with xylitol this type of sugar substitiute has been proven to reduce cavity causing bacteria in your mouth. However if used way to often there is the possiblitity of bacterial resistance.

i think it was trident (sugarless ) gum.

Dr. Chris (DDS)
As a dentist myself I have come to this conclusion: 4 out of 5 dentists believe the 5th dentist is an idiot! Back to the question, I too never recommend that my patients chew any type of gum- gum is loaded with sugar that is a breeding zone for bacteria that cause cavities, if they must chew gum then sugar free is the only gum recommended.

Dr. Albert, DDS, (USA)
HELLO,
I'VE NEVER RECOMMENDED THAT ANY OF MY PATIENTS CHEW GUM.
IF THEY INSISTED ON CHEWING AND ASKED I RECOMMENDED SUGAR-FREE GUM.
WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT 4/5 RECOMMEND THAT "FACT", FROM A GUM COMMERCIAL RIGHT?
ENOUGH SAID.

tha last don
no, they reccomend sugarless gum.

the ad for trident or extra or whatever the gum commercial is means that 4 out of 5 dentists reccomend chewing sugarless gum, the 5th doesnt reccomend it at all

I believe the fifth Dentist really has the more business in tackling cavities for those that don't chew gum. The sugarless gum is for brushing when you really can't. ("snap" of the gum)

Well I'm one of the five then! Why because I treat patients that have TMD (temporo-mandibular disorders) Chewing ANY kind of gum places more stress on your jaw joints! 75% of the US population has had some kind of jaw joint symptoms...5-10% will require active treatment. The first advice is to stop chewing gum, finger nails or pens. You can't fully rest your jaw joint like a sprained ankle, so less stressful activities is a step nearer to resolving pain.
Buy a toothbrush and toothpaste if you want really clean teeth!

cubbielovin19
If that's true then my dentist must be the 1/5 who doesn't.... because he's never recommended that I chew gum.

There are lots of ways to 'spin' statistics to make them say what you want. The study that came up with those results may have been biased or too small of a sample to be representative of all dentists.
