Please help me! I am scared of having my cervical cancer jab!?
I ma getting the cervical cancer jab this year and I am freakng out! I hate needles and am scared I will faint or have an adverse reasction. One girl died form it, another even got paralized! Somebody started talking about it today and sticking a penn in their arm and i felt dizzy and faint! We can bring ipod's, books or water into the injecting thing, there is nowhere to lie down and our nurse isn't very friendly. I'm not scared of pain but it is just the thought of the needle, blood and fainting. Please try and reassure me. My friends are not really helping! I really wish I couldn't have it but my mum wants me to.

Ps. I have mild cerebal palsy, will this cause a reaction to the vaccine?

lov every1 who answers this in a nice way... sorry it's long!

Before you get the jab the nurse will ask you about your condition so dont worry, if it affects it then you wont get it. The jab really isnt bad, ive had it and im fine. It goes into the muscle so it can ache for a day or so but then it will go. You will have to get two more after the first so you will be well used to it by then! Dont worry, there is hardly any blood as with any jab. And its better than having cervical cancer!

Darlin. I'm in year 8 and I took 1 today. It doesn't hurt! Don't look at the needle, because you'll get scared. If I'm going to be honest, I cried and cried and cried today... and when it got to the time. I counted to ten really quickly, and looked and she said, 'you're finished' and I had felt nothing. It's like someone poking you with a pencil. The girl who died had a tumor, and it had nothing to do with the jab. You are very lucky you're taking the jab, because some people would love to have it but they can't. Don't think about it!

I have cancer,

I've had needles stuck in my arm vein at least once every month, major surgery and nasty life threatening side effects. That's probably going to be a couple of needles a month for the rest of my life.

Wish someone had produced a needle for three shots before it all happened to me.

First of all, this girl didn't die from this, she had a serious illness and was already ill when she had the injection and died the day after. This had nothing to do with the jab. I have it last year and it's completely fine. Your arms a bit sore after wards but that wears off the day after wards. It's nothing like having a pen in your arm. It's just like any other injection, it could save your life. It's only in your arm for a few seconds and you don't even realize when it comes or goes! They'll let you sit down for as long as you like (you can skive the whole lesson if you like (: ) I haven't heard about the girl getting paralyzed, but that probably just like the girl who died from it, different problems. Your allowed to chose what arm you have it on, and they normally don't have your school nurse doing it, normally they have 3 or 4. Your also allowed a drink after wards, if you feel dizzy. Just remember that it will do you good in the long run!

I'd rather have a jab than cancer.

Try reading while you receive it. Reading distracts you and allows you to clear the thought from your mind in a way that music, or video does not.

STOP IT RIGHT NOW.
Firstly; The girl who sadly passed away had NOT reacted badly to the jab, indeed the jab went without any problems, it was her underlying heart condition which killed her and this was just a coincidence that it happened just after the jab.
Secondly, the needle used in the inoculation is the finest available and is little more that the width of a human hair. You will NOT feel the injection, and there will be NO blood. As for your mate who was sticking a pen in her arm today, A pen is blunt, 100 times wider than the needle and no indication of any thing other than how daft she was.
The school nurse, will not be giving the injection, unless qualified, but either way, it's only a two second event - YES! TWO SECONDS..... One - Two! - Over!
You will not faint, you will not die, you will not bleed to death, you will not have a reaction and die, and your mild medical condition will have NO bearing on this injection.
Lastly: if anyone starts talking up this event or dramatising it, just get up and walk away.

I've had mine, all 3 infact and i was just as worried as you are! But seriously, there is no point stressing over this tiny little needle, i hate injections but they last 2 seconds tops and it's all good, you won't faint or die or any of that stuff. The only chance of you fainting is because you would be overreacting or have some mild condition. There's the tiniest dot of blood too, so don't worry about that! Don't take any notice of the nurse's if they are unfriendly, you're friends will be there to support you won't they as you will for them. You will be fine and it's worthit, you wouldn't rather have cervical cancer would you? Just take deep breathes and think about something positive like someone you like, a holiday or an upcoming party :) Good luck and hope this helped! <3
