Cigarettes are nothing but a legalized drug. Do you think they would give that up all the money there making off killing people. Hell who blames them whenever they have a warning on the pack and they still smoke and buy it .....Can you say easy money |

It does seem oddly familiar but, where is the same emphasis and outcry on the production and sale of hemp??? When it is factually known; one joint has the same damaging potential as an entire pack of cigarettes? |

Bacause it feels good to them and it is addictive, also people smoke the most in times when they are stress to the point. So they need something to realize them at that exact moment |

Greed, Money-look at the money he tobacco companies are making then too I doubt Indians dies of cancer that much and they smoked tobacco-probably all the additives have a lot to do with that .Nicotine itself although addictive is not a carcinogenic its burning the cigarette that released all the additives, all the chemicals that makes it cancer causing. Then too Indians didn't smoke all the time for had to hunt, make food, tend gowing things, raise kids, make clothes and so on. But back to your question once Industry makes money and considering 1-pack is $3. their only concern is making more money. |

If they did stop making cigarettes, smokers would suffer severe with drawls, families in the industry may lose jobs and companies soliciting cigarettes would lose business. I think smoking is stupid all around too but it is a matter of supply and demand - a big part of our economy deals with tobacco and tobacco products. It is not found as much in advertising as it was say 10 years ago but advertising companies profit from tobacco industries too. Not to mention the doctors and hospitals that benefit from patients with tobacco related illnesses such as cancer, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, wrinkles, anxiety, heart disease. It is sad but most companies care more about making money than they do about the health of the majority of the population. "It's all about the dollar" I know it is not a pretty truth though. |

It's big business and supports the farmers (who could grow something else, I suppose). The bigger question is why people still get hooked on cigarettes. I know they are addictive, but why do they even buy that first pack? |

The companies don't really care if its bad. They are addicting, so the companies know people will buy more. It's just for money! |

Because the big tobacco companies wouldn't make any money. Besides, it is like the Prohibition. People will still find a way to get them. |

IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY TO STOP MAKING CIGARETTES, THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY WANTS PEOPLE OR YOUNG PEOPLE TO SMOKE THIS WAY THE CIGARETTES INDUSTRY COULD GET RICH, THEY DON'T CARE WHO GETS HURTS AS LONG AS LONG AS THEY ARE MAKING MONEY. THE KEY THERE IS MAKING MONEY EVEN IF PEOPLE DIED, OR GET SICK |

Because is an old habit people have inherited thru generations, besides is a habit that young kids learn and sometimes they just do it just because its "cool" but they cant stop making it because is a rentable business that leaves great revenues to companies and people ask for it. So is a product on demand, and thats why they cant stop making it. |

well the companys need to be shut down because they really arent going to stop making money. |

because people still buy them. i mean guns arent safe, yet they still make them. pretty much if they were to stop making something that isnt safe, then everything would be gone because whats safe for some people arent safe for others. |

First the farmers grow tobacco and make money. Next the government subsidises the growing of tobacco. The states and cities tax tobacco and make money. A number of states sued big tobacco and won enormous sums of money as judgements. If the companies stop making tobacco products, who will pay those judgements to the states? If there are no tobacco products to buy, where will the lost tax revenues come from? All of the people who work in the tobacco industry would be out of jobs. How will the federal and state governments make up for the lost income taxes revenue? A substantial portion of the tobacco sales are in countries other than the United States. Where will these contries buy their tobacco products? The amount of money involved in this whole process is staggering! |

When the government begins to regulate all things bad for us, where will we all be without McDonald's and Burger King? Also, where will many political officials get their campaign money? You underestimate the power of the Tobacco lobbyist. Trust me, I live in a tobacco growing state. |

That is a question that I asked some people who work in the tobacco industry. The answer that I got is that it is a legal industry that is profitable and heavily taxed. They claim that there is a market demand for their product.
While it may be easier to wish that the plants would go away, they have a lot of PR people and lawyers that exert their right to be here. |
