Do all cancer patients lose hair?
Do people diagnosed with ANY cancer lose hair?

James M
Hair loss comes from the TREATMENT of the cancer. BECAUSE they use POISON to kill the cancer cells.

SORRY THUMB DOWNER but it is TRUE they use a poison which targets rapidly growing cells and this causes alopecia which is the medical term for hair loss

cancer patients lose their hair due to radiation and chemotherapy treatments. whether or not they lose all of their hair depends on the strength and duration of their treatment, but most do lose all of their hair.

No. you lose hair from radiation and chemotherapy... it attacks all of your cells and the ones in hair are the weakest so they come out. Most of the time its the treatment of cancer that actually kills you, not the cancer itself.

no. only if you go through chemotherapy. my mom had breast cancer and she lost her hair because f chemo. after chemo you go through radiation but you dont lose your hair in radiation. if your cancer is 1.0 or under you dont have to go through chemo. hope this helps.

Well you have a lot of good answers here, and James M is right, don't know why he got thumbs down either. My doctor did say that not all chemo will cause hair loss. A lady that gets it on the same day as I do, still has most of her hair. It depends mostly on the meds they give you. Yes I lost all my hair in about 3 weeks.

no. chemotherapy is what causes people to lose hair. chemo targets the fastest growing cells in the body (cancer cells and hair).

no. you loose the hair from chemo.

no, cancer isn't what makes you lose the hair. its the chemotherapy, as it passes through the system, it kills cells - all types of cells. the point of it is to kill the cancer cells, which it does, it just kills others on its way, unfortunately. not all people that go through chemo lose their hair, though. my dad has lung cancer, it is terminal. he has lost a bit of hair through chemo, but not much. he never went through intense chemo or radiotherapy, so that is why i think he has not lost hair.

Kevin S
cancer doesn't cause hair loss

its the treatment that causes cancer patients to lose hair and become very weak. chemotherapy and radiation is very powerful and takes quite a toll on whoever must undergo treatment

also it depends on where the cancer is and how much chemo is necassary. they may not lose hair

No its only from chemothearypie... all other cancers just make you ill...
Chemo attacks your cell and ya soooo i dont know much...

Sam L
Hair loss is caused by chemotherapy. Some patients who receive treatments at a lower dose merely get thinner hair(temporarily).

Chemo causes the hair loss. Cancer does not, in general.
Better to lose your hair temporarily, than to lose your life, permanentely!
( Two time cancer survivor )

No, it's due to chemotherapy which affects rapidly dividing cells.

hair loss is from the chemotherapy, it's not a symptom of cancer

They dont loose hair because of cancer its because of chemo therapy

Oh boy, the hair question sure does come up a lot. I have brain cancer and the ONLY places I lost my hair was where the surgeon shaved the spot to cut open my skull. Then I lost hair where the radiation went into my brain and came out. My chemo has NOT caused any hair loss or hair thinning whatsoever. I am still on chemo and the bald spots from radiation are almost an inch long now and still growing. Different side effects with different chemo drugs. Cancer does NOT make you lose your hair.
