Could this lump in my neck be cancer? I'm only 13.?
Recently I found a little hard lump on my neck. It's about pea sized, I can push it hard but it doesn't really move and it's still under my skin.

My Dad had cancer and his tumour wrapped around his stomach when he was in his 20's. He's fine now but I'm still scared about it.
Could this raise my chance of having cancer myself?

Please tell me if you think this is a cancerous tumour in my neck? I'm only 13. I don't want to die.

I've not told my Mum or Dad yet because I they might think I'm overreacting or they might worry.

Is the lump painful? Its very unlikely you have cancer, its probably a swollen gland or lymph node or something, just say to your mom I have a lump in my neck its bothering me and she will take it from there. Your dad having cancer doesnt raise your chance of having it.

I Have The Exact Same Thing On My Neck

Although Ive Already had skin cancer this year at the bottom of my head :s

im going to see a doctor tomorrow

Chances are that this isn't some sort of cancer although you do have a slightly higher risk of developing cancer due to the fact that your father had it. That being said, I would tell your parents about this and ask them to take you to see your regular doctor. Just ask your mom or dad to take a look at the lump on your neck but don't mention you think it might be cancer.

You can trust your parents to do the right thing.

Don't panic, the lump in your neck could be a lymph node which is something that everyone has but not everyone feels by touch.

One question I have is were you recently sick. Because sometimes they swell up and become more visible when you are.

Either way you should get it checked out:

1) because cancer runs in you family

2) if it is a lymph node and it is hard it can be a sign of infection somewhere. Like a throat or ear infection or something worse.

For more in info you could check out this site, but I still recommend you see a doctor:

just tell your parents you have the lump on your neck and show it to them, you should really get them to take you to the doctor to get it checked

JUST TELL YOUR PARENTS. Not to worry you but you could be like... dying. IDK. but GO TO THE DOC ASAP.

There is only one way to find out, and I suggest if you don't want to die then you get yourself to a doctor ASAP and check it out. The longer you wait the worse it could be for you if it is cancer

Depending on the location of this lump, it may be a swollen lymph node, which is just a natural response of the immune system. However, just to be sure, ask your school nurse about it if you have one. If she's well trained, she should know whether to tell your parents and get it checked out or not. Either way,you can never be too careful; so if possible, go ahead and tell your parents and schedule an appointment with your doctor.

In the source is a reference to where these lymph nodes are found. However, go ahead and ask your nurse. Best case scenario you may just be experiencing an infection or fighting off a virus.

it might just be a swollen lymph node, but I would DEFINITELY tell my parents ASAP to be sure...you will feel better when you tell them; it's unhealthy to keep stressful things on your mind so just let them know. I hope you're well!

It could be but it may also be just a fatty cyst. Have a doctor look at it. Tell your parents you have found it and want to know what it is. With your dad's history, they will want to know too. Don't get upset until you know what you are up against. They will not think you are over reacting if you tell them about it rationally.

go get it tested

My name's MUD
When we find things that are unusual, it is a good idea to get them looked at.
There are lots of lumps and bumps that are harmless, and can be easily removed, sometimes in a day surgery.
As you have mentioned a genetic link to cancer with your father, he will know and understand your concerns well! Just because he was ill at a young age, doesn't mean that you will be ill too.
So you should get this looked at, see the doctor with or without your parents. The doctor may recognise that there is nothing wrong.
To cheak the situation out properly, you may need a blood test, which is a very easy 2 minute test to check your health is ok.

Don't sit around and worry, as you will start to find lumps and bumps all over the place.

Cancer is rare at your age, and although you are worried, you really need to see a medical professional to find out wat the lump is to stop the worry.

If you are in the UK, you can call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. A nurse will talk to you and tell you what to do next.
