SUGAZ
wHAT MEDICATIONS ARE USED FOR FLUID OVERLOAD? i KNOW THAT ANTIDIRECTICS ARE USED?

It's me :)
CCF (heart failure) can be treated with A.C.E. inhibtors (Ramipril, Captopril, Enalapril etc.) Beta blockers (Atenolol, Sotalol etc.) may be used as can Digoxin

Diuretics can be used (loop and thiazide)

In an acute phase in hospital CCF wil be treated with Oxygen, IV Nitrates, IV Diamorphine & IV diuretic.

The word you meant to use is diuretics.

The one used most frequently is Furosemide (Lasix). Also used are the potassium sparing diuretics, and the osmotic diuretics. Too complicated and too much information to give here.

Little known fact: both tea and lemon are natural diuretics.

The most common drugs for treating fluid overload are the diuretics, which make the kidneys pass more water. There are various kinds of diuretic, the most common being the thiazide drugs, such as bendroflumethiazide, and the loop diuretics, such as furosemide. There are other classes of diuretic as well.

If the fluid overload is due to heart failure, then drugs which drive the heart more strongly, such as digoxin, may also help to clear the fluid.

The obvious answer is diuretics (not antidiretics) since they remove fluid volume from the body IF you have kidney function.

In a pinch we can also use nitrates, nitroprusside, or morphine, since they increase venous capacitance so decrease preload and afterload IOW, if you suddenly increase the size of the vascular reservoir holding the blood you effectively decrease the work of the heart by decreasing resistance to flow and backpressure. They don't directly treat the fluid volume but do help with the problems caused by the fluid overload.

Of course, you may just be buying a new set of problems.

Fred
