I'm pretty sure I am allergic to gluten's (celiac) My feet have are so swollen I can barely walk on them. Antihistamines do not seem to be working on the condition. Can this condition cause death?

don't need wings to fly
only if the hives are causing you to not breathe or they stop an organ from functioning.

If it gets to an extreme, i know it may seem like you are at that point, but im sure there's been worse, it probably can affect your nerve system, or you'll scratch urself 2 death. pick one.

I think you should just get gluten free food and go see your doctor too

kasie c
no i have chronic urticaria~! people don't die from hives.. but it kind of sounds like diabetes.

Get an epie pen just incase and benadril

Wait for Dawn
You should ask a doctor about this. This sounds serious. Could be something you are not thinking of. Bee stings can kill people who are allergic to bee sting bites.

i think you can because your throat might swell up and stop air flow =S not a good thing or this might happen x-(

Bee hives can be quite severe. Specially if they are housing killer bees.

You can get angioedema which is similar to hives except the swelling is under the skin. Your swollen feet an example of angioedema. And yes, you can die from a swollen throat. Usually, you get swelling of your face, throat, stomach, groin, hands and feet.

Go to the emergency room if you start to have trouble breathing.
Other than that I don't see you dying from them.

Go to www.webmd.com and type in your symptoms. This is not a spam site and it's free.

You will know what to do from there, click on the symptom checker.

You need to talk to your Dr. about this. Hives can be very serious and it is a good possibility that you need to carry and epi-pen with you. If you start breaking out so badly, you feel like you can't breath, you will need to inject yourself or have someone inject you and take you to a hospital ASAP. My great grand daughter, age 18 months has been in the emergency room at least 3 times with swelling of her face, hands and feet. Please go see your Dr. and have some allergy testing done, so that he can diagnose you and go while your feet are swollen so he can see what you look like. Keep a food diary for a week or two and you will be able to track what might be causing the problem.

Yes you can. I once neally died from have an allergic reaction and I had hives!

If the inflammation reaches your throat area, yes. It can close your esophagus up to the point where it becomes impossible to breathe.

The answer is no unless they interfere with your breathing or you go into shock.

If you think you are allergic to gluten or have celiac disease then start a gluten free diet ASAP. If you want to get tested for celiac disease first then do that but get started on your diet right after that.

I had hives as bad as you are describing - my hands and feet would look like footballs they were so swollen. 8-12 mg of medrol will solve a lot of that.

Anyway, I went gluten free and have stayed gluten free and haven't had a hive in 7 years.

The easiest way to start a gluten free diet is to only eat fresh fruits and vegetables, non processed fresh beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs and cheese. Add in rice and potatoes for starches. That will take care of you for a couple of months and then you can start learning to read labels and find gluten free substitutes if the gluten free diet is working for you.

The other thing to do is find a gluten free multivitamin(I get mine at Costco) and an Omega complex oil capsule. Some combination of fish, and borage oil with maybe one or two more mixed in. Those will help your intestines heal.
