Question about the common cold!?
Hey everyone! i got this cold..well actually my nose is just runny and all that...but anyways i was just wondering how do you get a cold other then from somebody else? and what do you do to get rid of it...i mean what do you think is the best thing to use?

Please Help Me!!

Climate changes, germs, and of course to get rid of one you can take medications they sell in stores, but usually you just have to wait it out, the medication just gets rid of the symptoms while your body fights it off naturally. You could try anti-biotics from the doctor (penicillin, etc) but I don't really ever notice much of a speed-up from that in eliminating a cold.

always take vitamin c even for just once a week, cold can be cause by contact to person having that virus , to allergies that leads into colds , to change of climate or to vitamin defficiency , drink a lot of water , clean your environment it can prevent you of having cold

NyQuil or DayQuil could help and u can get a cold from anywhere weather, outside, public places.

Gen•X•er (I love zombies!)
You get it by touching something that has the virus on it, then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

There is no way to get rid of it. All of that stuff about zinc and echinacea and Vitamin C and stuff is a myth. The only thing those things might do is help your immune system to keep from getting the NEXT cold.

I find the best thing for a cold is simple painkillers (like Aleve or Tylenol).

The only true way to catch a cold is from a virus which is from someone else....no you can not get a cold from going out in the cold without a jacket - MOM - but it does help your immune system weaken. The best ways to get rid of a cold are to not catch one in the first place - wash hands often, keep your hands away from your mouth, nose and eyes, eat and live a healthy lifestyle and get plenty of rest. Once you do catch a cold take extra care of yourself, get plenty of fluids in you and once again get plenty of rest. The over the counter swabs and stuff that are said to ease the symptoms and lesson the length of time a cold sticks around really do seem to work for me, so give them a shot. But other then that cough meds, and etc only mask the symptoms they do not get rid of the cold.

Drink orange juice it helps and also a cup of water mixed with lemon juice and honey

You always have a cold, its just in winter you begin to see the symptoms. The cold is a virus and we haven't discovered a method of getting rid of viruses. What medicine does is relieve the symptoms you have from the re-emergence of the cold, it does not actually get rid of it. If you want to "get rid" of it, it is recommended that you increase your intake of vitamin C

Friendly Stranger..
Actually we can never really get rid of the cold. All the cold is is just a virus that stays with you. There are ways to stop the symptoms. Taking in lots of vitamin c and resting is important. Colds also come from outside elements. But most commonly transmitted from person to person.

For healing of your illness

me obviously
well, you could get it from the air around you because people sneeze and germs are in the air... especially if you are COLD as in chilly because your immune system is not working as well

and i would drink chicken noodle soup

yea get it from germs or bacteria that ur body has never had be4, but once that cold is gone, ur body can never ever get that cold again, since it remebers it. And u cant really do much 2 get rid of it, besides giving it a few days and it will eventually pass.

mainly when you get the cold you just need plenty of rest in a nice warm room. im told that chiken noodle soup is the ultimate tonic for a cold but you could also try some honey in a mug with some lemon and boiling hot water, works a treat on saw throats so it might help.
or you could run to the chemist and stock up on anti-cold drugs but that always feels like cheating to me.
hope you feel better soon.

Honestly speaking dont do anything on yourself, consult your Doctor.

Their is nothing Common about A cold. These are Life forms that are trying to Live!!!!!!!

nothing heals a cold....there is not cure.....trust me i'm a college student. you can get colds from touching your eyes with dirty hands, touching your nose with dirty hands...and other ways but i forgot....close contact with sick people.......like a dorm full of sick people

The only way you can get a cold.

Sometimes your immune system isn't as strong though so you catch one easier.

Colds can be from a number of things such as touching a surface that has the germs on it (especially metal or plastic as bacteria can live on these without dying for days) and then touching your face, you can also get it from airborne germs, etc.
I had a cold this past week and I took Nyquil at night to help me get to sleep faster so I could get more rest to help me get better and I also drank a ton of water (doesnt seem like a big deal but it helps a lot), and also took Vira-pel by the Weed Botanical Co. it has olive leaf, hyssop, raspberry leaf, schisandra berry, and echinasia root in it... it works so well! It makes me feel better shortly after I take it and I take it three times a day when I am sick (just mix it with water). I already feel a ton better and started not noticing my symptoms after about three days after taking it. It gives your immune system a huge boost and if your throat hurts it also helps to sooth that. Make sure to take sudaphed or dayquil is well to help with your stuffy head. =] hope you feel better.
