Major sinus problem...help please?
I don't remember the last time I was able to breathe out of my nose. I've taken every allergy medicine out there. I went to a ENT doctor and he gave me Xyzal...he said it was the best one out there. It started to work but it only lasted a couple days. Now I'm back to having headaches and constant mucus in my throat and congestion in my nose. I also started seeing chiropractor for back problem I have and I was told that should help sinuses as well. After my first visit my headache went away and I could breathe for the first time in years. It's been 2 weeks since my first chiropractic visit and my symptoms are back again. What else can I try?
Additional Details
Thanks for all the responses. I will definitely try some. I have not gotten an allergy test so I think that's my first answer to this. I sneeze the most at home, it could be something there or food. I think I'm going to stop taking allergy medication since it doesn't help. I go to the chiropractor for my back, I have major lower back problems so I'm not allowed to do much exercise right now. When I do work out I find my congestion clears up temporarily.

try breath right strips. I haven't tried them but i heard they work.
Try the Basic nasal spray. It seems worse at first but gets way better.

i guess you have 2 options:

1. go back to the ENT doctor and ask for a referral to a specialist. if they are badly blocked there are ways of surgically correcting this. my son had a problem and got this done and is more than ok now.
2. go back to the chiropractor for short term relief but not before you see the ENT person as it could mask the symptoms.

ask the chiropractor if continually doing this will give long term results otherwise it could end up costing you a fortune every few weeks.

good luck - apart from the pain it can be really depressing.

You might be able to do a sinus cleanse. It's a big relief to me when I am sick!!!:D

When I feel problems coming on for me bakind soda works. I believe its the iodine in the salt that kills germs and so many other things. I take about two teaspoons one teaspoon in am and one at night. In 4 oz water on empty stomach.

YOU CAN TAKE WHAT EVER MEDICINE THEY HAVE FOR ALL THE THINGS YOU NEED WARNING:DONT OVERDOSE YOURSELF IT CAN KILL YOU. JUST TAKE THE AMOUNT YOU NEED IF IT DOESNT WORK GO SEE A HOSPITALIZED DOCTOR THEY ARE VERY GOOD AT THOSE THINGS

I have sinus problems and I tried those breath rite strips to help at night but, over time my nose was getting wider. I found that steam works for me.Over the stove or you can buy a vaporizer. It opens the air ways. I would make a list. where do you sneeze more at home, work, when your outside. It is spring lots of pollen and dust in the air. So, when I start sneezing I do extra cleaning. like the blankets, pillows, curtains ,mini blinds and vacuuming behind/under the couch.. The dust is everywhere. I found that the cat and dog don't help. They bring in all kinds of stuff from outside. So, I give them a bath. Hope this helps. B

heart o' gold
Chiropractic care is usually an ongoing thing, you could go back.

I would also try sinus washes. They are gross and a little weird to do, but they help my allergies. I also find that if I keep the house really clean it helps. When I wake up stuffy, I dust and vaccumm the house really well and then do a sinus wash and it seems to help.

Have you been allergy tested? If not, you might want to try that. If you don't know what you're allergic to it's hard to limit your exposure.

Besides the chiro treatments (which by the way - yoga will ensure your spine stays straight) - I would recommend vitamin C (as much as 3000 mg a day) and exercise...(30 minutes running or fast walking a day). I think you are allergic to something in your environment. Do you notice it worse after being somewhere or eating something? Some of my kids had mild allergies (skin, sinus, etc.) until I stopped using cleaning products in my home. Out has gone all the windex, clorox, disinfectants, toilet cleaners, etc etc. I put one tablespoon of baking soda and one tsp of lemon - with three drops of pure essential lavender oil into a liter (half a gallon) of water and use this to clean floors, etc. I make a less diluted version for heavy cleaning. We wash windows with half water and vinegar. None in my family of seven have any more allergies since we started a few months ago. What they put in cleaning products is just frightening these days. Maybe this will help? And if you have synthetic carpets in your home - I would get rid of those - wood or tile only -- and also get rid of any old mattresses or pillows, sofas, etc. Dust mites are big contributors to allergies...

Also - I would advise you NOT take medicines for sinus as they will only aggravate the symptoms later. The best is just saline water - pure - three times a day put 3 drops in both nostrils..

Finally - eat a lot of raw garlic if you can - on salads, etc.

Hope this helps and you get better soon...
