Is There A Laundry Detergent That Cleans And Won't Bother My Skin?
I am having terrible skins problems from laundry detergent. All my clothes are washed in a front loader and I have tried just about every brand you can think of. I have tried natural detergents with no success. The only detergent I can use is Ivory Snow if I use only a little but then my clothes smell because I am not using enough detergent. If I use more Ivory Snow, than the detergent bothers my skin which breaks in little red bumps and burns. I have put my clothes through multiple rinses until they are beaten to death and they still bother me. I have tried calling the company that makes the front loader but they are unable to help me. I have seen dermatologists but they are unable to help me. Their only suggestion is to continue using Ivory Snow and do small loads but that doesn't help me. I am losing money from all the water and energy used to wash my clothes as well as my patience. I am spending most of my free time washing my clothes. Can anybody help me?!?!?

If you have tried so many different detergents, you've probably already tried this but I feel I must mention - have you tried any of the "free and clear" laundry detergents? They are mostly liquids, and free of any and all perfumes and dyes. Most are hypoallergenic.

I'm not sure if you can use liquid detergent in a front-loading machine, but if I were you I'd be ready to try just about anything... maybe just pour the detergent in there once you've loaded the clothes in it.

I really feel for you - I have horribly sensitive skin, and it's an awful feeling to be breaking out in a rash!
I hope you find a solution soon. Good luck.

Purex hypoallergenic, free of dyes and perfurmes, is good. ALL makes a hypoallergenic one also.

Not knowing where you live, it's hard to recommend specific brands. Purex makes non-scented, hypoallergenic detergent. Ivory snow may not really be as gentle as you think! Have you ever thought that maybe you could have hard water? That in itself makes my skin itchy. Be sure you don't use fabric softener and or dryer sheets. PLEASE don't ever put those things near sensitive skin. Have you thought about trying just baking soda? Good luck!

Try using Dreft. It is supposed to be gentle and non-irritating (because it's formulated for baby clothes). But it has to be strong to get out baby stains.

I'm sensitive too, and All brand "free & clear" works good for me

Try some detergent from your local health store, you are having skin problems because of all the chemicals in your regular detergent. Its a wonder we all don't break out. Best of luck to you.

I ended up having to try different detergents several years ago because what I had been using bothered my husband and my kids. "ALL" makes an allergen free detergent, no dyes or perfumes etc. You could try this and see if it works for you. I hope that you soon find something that will help make you feel better and not irritate your skin. Best of luck. Hope this helps you. You could also have your allergist do a skin patch test to try and find out what exactly you are allergic to. Than you'll know what is bothering your skin and what you can't use.

MAybe you should get a washer with size selection so you could do smaller loads with the detergent that doesn't bother you. Although you might be spending a lot on a washer you'll save money on water and energy bills.

Vinegar could help:

'' Get cleaner laundry! Add about 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar to the last rinse. The acid in white distilled vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, yet strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents. Besides removing soap, white distilled vinegar prevents yellowing, acts as a fabric softener and static cling reducer, and attacks mold and mildew.''

Have you tried Dreft? It is supposed to be very gentle.

I usually use Tide Free (free of dyes and perfumes), but my skin is not as sensitive as yours.

Use an all natural laundry soap like Mela Power.

Go to your local health food store. I have been using "Seventh Generation" for years and it works very well.

I have a little bit from what you have. After rinsing them for a second tour in the washing machine, I soak them at night in a large bucket, and put them back in the washing machine for a third time rinsing. So I can't afford to put them in the dryer, and I put them to dry on a special support.
