Can people develop allergies?
When I was born the doctors said I was not allergic to anything.
And I guess they were right because I never had any symptoms during allergy season and I never had to got to the hospital because of an insect bite or eating any kind of nuts or seafood.

But now 18 years later during the summer I had a runny nose, sneezing for about 2 weeks I also had some other symptoms that I can't remember. I didn't have a fever so I know it wasn't the cold or flu.

So can people develop allergies after time?

as far as i know im only allergic to two things donkeys (i found this out when i was having a donkey ride in skegness when i was younger), and metal (when i touched the shopping trolley in tesco my hand would swell up).

The simple answer is yes, allergies can develop at any time. I've read that they can be triggered by various changes - environmental, hormonal, etc.

18 years later - sounds like perhaps you've gone on to college, or taken on a job... new environments, even stress, can cause your body to have immunological responses you didn't have before.

I had eczema as a child, and then it disappeared (I read somewhere that puberty can change that). I moved to California from Illinois after school and started having eczema again, even on my eyelids. I became allergic to shellfish as an adult at age 22 after many months of not eating shrimp (which I used to eat and love). When I became pregnant with my son, my allergies improved a lot. After I had him, they were much better. But, then he wasn't growing well - turns out he had multiple food allergies, so because I was still breastfeeding, I went on a strict elimination diet. When I weaned him finally, I was unable to go back to eating all those foods - I'd become allergic to them myself. Having my daughter didn't change anything. My allergies are not bad as long as I stay off those foods, keep dust mite covers on stuff, don't do outside yardwork and stay inside more than out. My reactions are mostly eczema as opposed to runny nose, congestion and sneezing, although I have those also, seasonally.

If it seems to be seasonal only, you can ask your doctor (or school physician, etc) for some advice - over the counter (OTC) medicines like Benadryl, chlorpheniramine, etc should only be used short-term, so they may recommend medicines that were prescription-only before like Zyrtec (cetirizine), Claritin, Clarinex, etc... a nasal spray or steroid depending on how bad your allergies are.

Good luck, hope you can combat your allergies well.

sorry to say, Yes!
I was 25 yrs old when I developed allergies to: trees, molds, mildew, grass...
you may want to go for allergie testing to find out exactly what you are allergic to.

Yep, after 40 years of being allergy free, I developed allergies to a lot of outdoor things. Major sinus problems developed and that was how I found out I had the allergies. Good luck!!
