Allergy Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Wood or plastic chairs are best for baby's room.

2. Again, avoid all feather bedding.

3. Use dust-proof casings for all bedding.

4. Animal fur is a potential allergen. It's best to keep pets out of the baby's room.

5. Antihistamines help reduce the sneezing, runny nose and itchiness of allergies.

6. Pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine help temporarily relieve the stuffy nose of allergies.

7. Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray that helps prevent the body's reaction to allergens.

8. Nasal steroid sprays reduce the reaction of the nasal tissues to inhaled allergens.

Aloe Vera drinking gel.

The Rhinitis is an irritation up in the nasal passages. By drinking Aloe Vera gel you are strengthening your immune system and that in turn will get rid of the irritation.

Another tip is to avoid anything containing aspartame.

I have the same problem, I take one tablet of cetirizine hydrocloride per day and it alleviates the problem. I but the unbranded versions from www.chemistdirect.com as they cost about 1 pound per month supply instead of 3-4 per week in Boots (i.e piriteze or other branded products)

I use a neti pot for nasal irrigation. You can get them from ebay with the salt.

When it comes to nasal irritation, I turn to Xylitol.

Xlear.com has a nasal spray that is a combination of xylitol and saline spray that has shown to soothe and moisturize sinuses and nasal passages. Using xylitol creates a hyper-osmotic solution which helps pull moisture toward it. This keeps the nasal passages and sinuses moist for a much longer time than saline alone. Xylitol inhibits the ability of bacteria to adhere to tissue. Without this adhesion it is hard for them to do any damage.

Xlear Nasal Spray does not use chemical antihistamines or decongestants that can leave your airways and sinuses dry. When sinuses and airways are dry it leaves them vulnerable for increased infections.

Dr Frank
Only a percentage of patients tend to respond to oral antihistamines. The evidence is that standard doses of nasal steroids improve the nasal mucosa of sufferers in the long term rather than damage it. There are however other topical alternatives. Some patients will respond to sodium cromogycate spray and others to Azelastine, a topical antihistamine, and a few to Ipratropium bromide an anticholinergic. Overall however topical nasal steroids have stood the test of time both with regards to efficacy and safety.
