Uses
Guaifenesin is an expectorant used to help clear mucous and congestion. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which helps relieve nasal congestion. This combination medication is used to treat symptoms associated with a cold, allergies or respiratory tract illness.
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
- Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, fast or irregular heartbeat, and seizures.
How
To Use - Take D-Pse/gg by mouth.
- It should be swallowed whole.
- Do not crush or chew the medication.
- If stomach upset occurs, this may be taken with food or milk.
- Take D-Pse/gg as directed.
- Do not increase the dose or take it more often or longer than prescribed.
- It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve congestion.
Side
Effects - Nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, nervousness, dizziness, or headache may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication.
- If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
- Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid heart rate, anxiety, fear, difficulty urinating (men only), difficulty sleeping.
- Because D-Pse/gg may cause dizziness, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness and avoid consuming alcohol which can aggravate this effect.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease, emphysema, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, difficulty urinating, an enlarged prostate, history of seizures.
- D-Pse/gg should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is not known if D-Pse/gg appears in breast milk; consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed
Dose - If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up the dose to catch up.
Drug
Interactions - Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, medication for high blood pressure.
- Tell your doctor if you have taken any MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks: furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, linezolid.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
