Ak-Nacl is used to reduce swelling of the cornea in certain eye conditions. It may also be used during eye exams.

Uses
Ak-Nacl is used to reduce swelling of the cornea in certain eye conditions. It may also be used during eye exams.


Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
  • Discard this if the solution turns color, cloudy or contains particles.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Ak-Nacl may be harmful if swallowed.

How To Use
  • Apply Ak-Nacl to the eye as directed.
  • Apply eye ointment to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hands first.
  • To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the tube tip or let it touch your eye.
  • Rolling the ointment tube in your hands for a minute will make the ointment flow easier.
  • Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch.
  • Place 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ointment into the pouch by squeezing the tube gently.
  • Close the eye and roll the eyeball in all directions to spread the medication.
  • Try not to blink and do not rub the eye.
  • Wipe the tip of the ointment tube with a tissue to remove excess medication before capping it.
  • If you are using an eye drop in addition to Ak-Nacl, apply the eye drops first and wait at least five minutes before applying this eye ointment.
  • If you are using another type of eye ointment, wait at least ten minutes after using Ak-Nacl before applying it.

Side Effects
  • Vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable for a period after applying the ointment.
  • Use caution if driving or performing duties requiring clear vision.
  • Burning or irritation of the eye may occur when first applied.
  • If these symptoms continue or become worse, inform your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: redness/pain/ swelling in or around the eyes, vision problems, sensitivity to light, headache.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor if you have: other eye problems, allergies.
  • As with any medication, this should be used cautiously during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double-up the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter or prescription medications you use, especially of: other eye medications.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
