This medication has been used to widen (dilate) the pupil of the eye. Yohimbine has been used in the past to treat male sexual function problems, but this use is no longer recommended. Yohimbine belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-2 adrenergic blockers. It has the effect of relaxing certain muscles of blood vessels and the pupil.This medication should not be used in women.

Uses
This medication has been used to widen (dilate) the pupil of the eye. Yohimbine has been used in the past to treat male sexual function problems, but this use is no longer recommended. Notes
  • Do not share this medication with others.Keep all medical appointments so that your doctor can periodically monitor your progress or check for side effects.

Storage
  • Store at room temperature away from light and moisture.
  • Do not store in the bathroom.
  • Keep all medicines away from children and pets.


How To Use
  • Take this medication by mouth, usually 3 times daily or exactly as directed by your doctor.Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it.
  • To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Side Effects
  • Nausea, dizziness, and nervousness may occur.
  • Other side effects may include headache, sweating, vomiting, unusually fast heartbeat, and skin flushing.
  • If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
  • Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes (e.g., anxiety), feelings of restlessness/agitation/jitteriness.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
  • However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Before taking yohimbine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
  • Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: kidney problems, severe mental/mood disorder (e.g., psychosis, anxiety/panic disorder).Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: stomach/duodenal ulcer, other mental/mood disorders (e.g., depression).This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy.
  • Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness.
  • Limit alcoholic beverages.This medication is not recommended for use in the elderly.This medication is not recommended for use in children.Since this medication is not intended for use in women, avoid accidental use.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you accidentally take this medication while pregnant.It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk.
  • Avoid accidental use while breast-feeding.
  • Consult your doctor immediately if you accidentally take this medication while breastfeeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
  • If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
  • Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
