Used in certain medical tests to diagnose appendicitis. This is a radiodiagnostic agent. This medicine was withdrawn from the U.S. market on December 19, 2005, because it may cause rare but serious side effects.

Technetium

Uses
Used in certain medical tests to diagnose appendicitis. This is a radiodiagnostic agent. This medicine was withdrawn from the U.S. market on December 19, 2005, because it may cause rare but serious side effects.



How To Use
  • APPEARANCE: Injectable. Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
  • This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins. A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. You may need to drink extra fluids in the first few hours after receiving this medicine.

Side Effects
  • Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing. Chest pain. Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, or body aches. Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting. Numbness or tingling in your hands, arms, legs, or feet.

Precautions
  • You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to technetium (99M Tc) fanolesomab, sodium hydrosulfite, or to products made from mice.


Drug Interactions
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have heart disease or lung disease. While using this medicine, you may be exposed to radiation.
  • Your urine may contain radioactive substances that should be removed from your body.
  • Talk to your doctor about any risks, and precautions you may need to take. This medicine may affect your future use of products made from mice.
  • Talk to your doctor about this. This medicine lowers the number of some types of blood cells in your body.
  • Because of this, you may bleed or get infections more easily.
  • To help with these problems, avoid being near people who are sick or have infections.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Stay away from rough sports or other situations where you could be bruised, cut, or injured.
  • Brush and floss your teeth gently.
  • Be careful when using sharp objects, including razors and fingernail clippers.
