This medication is a cough suppressant/decongestant/antihistamine combination used for the relief of cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.Do not use this medication in children younger than 2 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. To decrease the risk for serious side effects, carefully follow all of the doctor's dosage directions. Do not give other cough and cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).

Uses
This medication is a cough suppressant/decongestant/antihistamine combination used for the relief of cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.Do not use this medication in children younger than 2 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. Do not give other cough and cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).
Notes
  • Do not share this medication with others.

Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
  • Do not store in bathroom.
  • Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Overdose
  • Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, deep sleep, slowed breathing, irregular heartbeat, hot or cold skin, numbness or tingling in arms or legs, shaking, and seizures.

How To Use
  • Take this medication by mouth usually twice daily as needed, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Shake this liquid well before each dose.Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of fluids when you use this medication.
  • The fluid will help loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathing passages.Inform your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen.

Side Effects
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, trouble sleeping, and dryness of the nose and mouth may occur.
  • If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
  • Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: difficulty urinating, mental/mood changes, fast/irregular heartbeat.An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to tartrazine dye or aspirin ; or if you have any other allergies.Tell your doctor your medical history, including: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma (narrow angle), prostate conditions.This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
  • Limit alcoholic beverages.Caution is advised when using this medication in the elderly, since they may be more sensitive to medication side effects.This medication should not be used in newborns.This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.This medication may pass into breast milk.
  • Breast-feeding while using this medication is not recommended.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
  • If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
  • Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medication.Before using this medication, tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: methyldopa, guanethidine.Also report the use of drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, other antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine).Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and- cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients.
  • Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.
