This product is used as a supplement to treat very low blood levels of certain salts (sodium and/or chloride) that may occur in various medical conditions (e.g., severe diarrhea, during/after surgery). Treating very low blood levels of these salts can prevent serious side effects (e.g., seizure, mental/mood changes such as confusion).This product is a concentrated form of sodium chloride and must not be given by direct injection.

Uses
This product is used as a supplement to treat very low blood levels of certain salts (sodium and/or chloride) that may occur in various medical conditions (e.g., severe diarrhea, during/after surgery). Treating very low blood levels of these salts can prevent serious side effects (e.g., seizure, mental/mood changes such as confusion).This product is a concentrated form of sodium chloride and must not be given by direct injection.
Notes
  • Do not share this medication with others.Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., blood salt/mineral levels, kidney function) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects.
  • Consult your doctor for more details.

Storage
  • Store the unmixed vials at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
  • Keep all medicines away from children and pets.Consult the manufacturer package or your pharmacist for details about storage after mixing with other IV fluids.

Overdose
  • Symptoms of overdose may include: swelling, trouble breathing.

How To Use
  • Read and learn all preparation and usage instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
  • Before using, check the product visually for particles or discoloration.
  • If either is present, do not use the liquid.
  • If any of the information is unclear, consult your pharmacist.This product must be mixed in an intravenous (IV) liquid before it is given.
  • After mixing, this product is given by injection into a vein as directed by a doctor, usually by a health care professional.Dosage is based on your age, weight, medical condition, and response to treatment.Learn how to store and discard needles and medical supplies safely.
  • Consult your pharmacist for details.

Side Effects
  • Swelling/redness/pain/soreness at the injection site may occur.
  • If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
  • Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, persistent sore throat), swelling (especially of ankles/legs/body).If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Before receiving this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies.Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart problems (especially heart failure), kidney disease, liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis), fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalemia), high levels of sodium in the blood (hypernatremia).This product may contain aluminum, which can infrequently build up to dangerous levels in the body.
  • The risk may be increased if this product is used for an extended time, especially in newborns or in people with kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any symptoms of too much aluminum in the body such as muscle weakness, bone pain, or mental changes.Kidney function declines as you grow older.
  • This medication is removed by the kidneys.
  • Therefore, elderly people may be at greater risk for fluid buildup around the heart and lungs while using this drug.Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.It is not known whether this product passes into breast milk.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

  • Not applicable.

  • Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
  • Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.Before receiving this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: drugs that may increase swelling (e.g., corticotropin, corticosteroids such as prednisone).
