This medication is used for birth control in certain women. This drug may also be used for certain menstrual problems.
  • Womb examinations will be done periodically to monitor the position of the device and for any possible problems.

  • Follow manufacturer instructions.

How To Use
  • HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: This device is inserted by your doctor into the womb (uterus).
  • It is effective for one year, then is removed and replaced if birth control is continued.
  • Follow all MD instructions carefully, and read the manufacturer patient information carefully.

Side Effects
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding and cramps may occur.
  • If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
  • Unlikely but report promptly any increased menstrual flow or bleeding between periods, painful intercourse, any abnormal or smelly vaginal discharge, flu-like symptoms, genital sores, missed period or backache.
  • Very unlikely but report promptly any fever, stomach/abdominal or vaginal pain or discomfort, bloody or black stool, fainting or slow heartbeat.
  • Some side effects, though unlikely, can lead to very serious problems.
  • Consult your doctor for details on the risks.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Before using this drug, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including any allergies (especially drug allergies), previous ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, female genital or pelvic infections/surgeries/other problems, heart disease, very large amount of menstrual flow, sexual history (you and partner), cancer, blood disorders, HIV, diabetes and IV drug use.
  • Do not pull on the threads attached to the device.
  • This product should not be used during pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Progesterone is excreted into breast milk.
  • Breast-feeding while using this product is not recommended.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • Contact your doctor promptly if you miss an appointment for removal and/or reinsertion of this device.

Drug Interactions
  • Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin, heparin) or other drugs affecting blood clotting such as aspirin, NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, indomethacin) or any birth control medicines.
  • Also, anti-cancer drugs or corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone) which can make you more prone to infections.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
