This medication is a blood thinner. It is given to persons undergoing certain surgeries to help prevent blood clots. Notes
While using this, be extra careful to avoid injuries as this can cause easy bleeding.
Use an electric razor and gently brush your teeth.
Store this at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from heat and light.
Do not freeze.
Properly discard of needles and syringes after use.
HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: This is given by injection under the skin (subcutaneously) by a health care professional.
It should not be given IM (intramuscularly).
It is usually given one to two hours before surgery then once a day for 5 to 10 days after surgery.
Irritation or pain may occur at the injection site.
If these effects become severe, inform your doctor.
Notify your doctor if you experience unusual bleeding or easy bruising, blood in the urine or stool or fever.
If you have had a spinal procedure along with this drug, promptly report weakness, numbness or pain.
In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Before taking this, tell your doctor your entire medical history, especially any bleeding disorders, ulcers, liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, history of stroke or allergies (especially to heparin or pork).
This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose.
Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take particularly aspirin, anti-inflammatory pain relievers or other blood thinners.
This medication should not be mixed with or added to any other medication in the same syringe.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
