How To Use
  • Take each dose with a full glass of water and drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication.
  • Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
  • Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
  • Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
  • Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.

Side Effects
  • This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, headache or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication.
  • If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor.
  • This may cause urine to be orange-brown in color.
  • This is not a cause for concern and will disappear when the medication is stopped.
  • This medication increases sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Notify your doctor if you develop breathing difficulties, skin rash, hives, chills, fever or yellowing of eyes or skin while taking this medication.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Be sure doctor knows your complete medical history.
  • This medication may make you more prone to sunburn.
  • Wear protective clothing and a sunscreen that does not contain PABA which can interfere with the activity of this medication.
  • If you are a diabetic, this medication can affect the results of Clinitest tablets.
  • Discuss with your doctor or pharmacist an alternative way to monitor your diabetes.
  • This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
  • Since small amounts of the drug appear in breast milk, consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered.
  • Do not take it if it is almost time for the next dose.
  • Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not "double-up" the doses.

Drug Interactions
  • Inform your doctor about all the medicine you use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take "blood thinners" warfarin (Coumadin), oral drugs to treat diabetes, phenytoin (Dilantin) or cyclosporine (Sandimmune) as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.
  • Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
